Molecular Genetics at The Ohio Academy of Science State Science Day!
On May 13th, Ohio State hosted over 1,000 5th-12th grade students from across Ohio who scored a Superior on their State Science Day project. Over twenty volunteers from Molecular Genetics visited student posters in the morning or participated in “Lunch with a Scientist” in the afternoon. Molecular Genetics also hosted two tours. At the Biological Sciences Greenhouse, David Snodgrass led a tour of facility and Anna Dobritsa, graduate students Isabella Mendes and Anna Lubertozzi, and undergraduates Jahnavi Tadiboina and Nethan Ramachandran led hands-on activities, including microscopy of pollen and isolating DNA from strawberry. On west campus, Sharon Amacher led a tour of the Zebrafish Facility and postdoc Rene Arvola, graduate student Derek Boehm, and undergraduate Kristen Nedza led hands-on activities, including microscopy of zebrafish embryos, fish Punnett squares, and decoding DNA. It was a great to spend time with these talented young scientists from all across the state!
