The Department of Molecular Genetics is grateful for the generous support of our alumni and friends. Donated funds enrich the experiences of our faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates by providing programs, scholarships, and facilities that enable world-changing discoveries.

Scholarships and Research Awards

Jim Hopper Memorial Undergraduate Research Fund (603272)
Dr. Jim Hopper was a valued colleague who passed away on January 21st, 2017 at the age of 74. Jim's thoughtful friendship and his passion for all aspects of science and science education are missed by all who knew him. The fund established in his name provides financial support to undergraduate students performing independent research is faculty labs.

Elizabeth Wagner Scholarship (647507)
This program was established in 2003 by Elizabeth Wagner’s family through The Foundation. The income provides Scholarships in the Department of Molecular Genetics with preference to undergraduate women.

Thomas J. Byers Memorial Scholarship Fund (641017)
Established in 2007 with gifts from family, friends, and colleagues in memory of Dr. Thomas Jones Byers.  Income is used to fund scholarships for students in the Department of Molecular Genetics in the College of Arts and Sciences.

BioEYES Ohio State Program Fund (316844)
BioEYES Ohio State Program Fund provides support for outreach programming and other intitiatives of the BioEYES project at Ohio State.

Lectures and Colliquia

Falkenthal Colloquium fund (602121)
Dr. Falkenthal was a valued teacher, researcher and colleague who died in 1990. The Falkenthal Memorial Fund was established in 1991 from donations from Dr. Scott Falkenthal’s estate, family, friends and colleagues. This fund supports an annual colloquium featuring talks from current graduate students and a keynote from a guest with some connection to the department.

Waller Lecture fund (607541)
Adolph E. Waller, Professor Emeritus of Botany at The Ohio State University was on the faculty of The Ohio State University for 45 years (1919-1964) prior to his retirement in 1964. The fund established in his name supports an annual lectureship that brings an internationally esteemed plant biologist to OSU to give lectures to the research community and to the citizens of Columbus.

Biao Ding Memorial Lecture Fund (601745)
Professor Ding passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2015 in Prague, Czech Republic while attending an international conference. Biao was a courageous, independent thinker of the highest quality and integrity, and a gentle, kind and sincere person who generously shared his time and resources with colleagues. The fund established in his memory supports an annual lectureship that brings a world-renowned cell biologist to OSU.

Department Support

Department of Molecular Genetics Support Fund (303557)
This critical fund provides us with the ability to fund urgent academic and research priorities that strengthen the Department.

Greenhouse fund (640470) 
This 15,120 square foot facility was completed in 1993. It supports the National Arabidopsis Resource Center (ABRC), a USFWS Plant Rescue Center, a Conservatory growing more than 1200 tropical and desert plant species, and an Insectary rearing 130 species of insects and arthropods. The greenhouse also contains a fabulous collection of Titan Arum (Corpse flowers) (https://bioscigreenhouse.osu.edu/titan-arum) that have bloomed frequently since 2011. Funds are used to defray expenses in the greenhouse, and maintain it as a nationally recognized site.
