TRONDBUSS
About the Biomedical Lab Science class offered to OSU students at NTNU:
Lauren Hartman (Biology major, TRONDBUSS 2022)
I enjoyed the class very much! It was really exciting to visit another country, and Norway was so beautiful. I learned a lot in the class and had a lot of fun, since that was the first time I'd ever worked with that kind of equipment. My favorite module was the medical microbiology; I only wish it lasted longer! There was a good balance of class time and free time, but honestly, I would've liked even more class time. I've been debating about going into medical laboratory science for a while, and that class helped me decide to pursue it. I'm going to apply to the OSU post-baccalaureate certification program this fall, so hopefully I'll get in!
Riley Ogrean (Molecular Genetics major, TRONDBUSS 2022)
I had an amazing time in Norway! I had never taken a lab course at Ohio State because I work in a lab already, so I thought the lab portion of the course was very helpful. I had never used a spectrophotometer before and when I came back from the trip, I ended up having to use it for my internship. I had also never taken a microbiology course because it’s not required for the Molgen major. I thought the class filled me in on some relevant topics that I would have never learned about at Ohio State due to my major requirements. I also enjoyed living in the dorms because I got to meet Norwegian students.
Jen Grainger (Molecular Genetics major, TRONDBUSS 2022)
I had so much fun in Norway, I wish I could’ve been there all summer; I truly don’t think I could’ve chosen a better study abroad program. We were so lucky to be able to experience all the equipment and knowledge that NTNU had to offer.
Abby Jung (Molecular Genetics major, TRONDBUSS 2022)
I had so much fun! It was a perfect balance between exploration of another country and learning in the classroom. I hiked and explored the surrounding area of Trondheim, had a cookout at the beach, visited one of our professor’s farms in the countryside, and took a weekend trip to Oslo. I also met some NTNU students that had welcomed me into their friend group. The course content was tailored to our group's needs, which ensured that everyone learned something new without leaving anyone behind. The professors at NTNU were more than generous and extremely patient with us. It was amazing to see the facilities and equipment used in NTNU's labs and classrooms.
Elizabeth Whetstone (Molecular Genetics major, TRONDBUSS 2022)
The program is not only special for the place that it is set in, Norway, but for the faculty that dedicate themselves to the success of the students. It was clear from the beginning that their goals were to help us grow as both scientists and world travelers. Our collaboration with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology is one that should be cherished for many years to come as the Norwegian faculty put together a class that I found to be an irreplaceable addition to the Molecular Genetics curriculum at Ohio State.
