Sharon Amacher

Congratulations to Sharon Amacher, who was awarded an Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching

This is the highest teaching accolade awarded by the University and Sharon is a truly deserving recipient!  Sharon holds joint appointments in the Department of Molecular Genetics and the Department of Biological Chemistry & Pharmacology and is an active member of the Center for RNA Biology and the Center for Muscle Health and Neuromuscular Disorders . She currently serves as the Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Molecular Genetics. Her research lab studies cell fate determination in embryonic development, using zebrafish as a model system for human development and disease. In addition to her outstanding contributions to teaching and research, Sharon engages in significant community outreach and engagement activities, including demonstrations at COSI Science day, WestFest, and taking the BioEyes zebrafish project into local schools.

The award was announced during a surprise visit to our Zoom faculty meeting by Provost Bruce McPheron, Vice Provost Helen Malone, and President and CEO, Alumni Association, Molly Calhoun. We were joined by several members of Sharon's family and by current and former lab members,
