The Art and Science of Plants presents Trichome Petting Zoo

Every other year, the Departments of Art and Molecular Genetics offer a course entitled "The Art and Science of Plants". Jointly taught by our own Iris Meier and Amy Young (Department of Art), students spend time in the lab and in the studio, learning to bridge science and art, culminating in a public show. This year's class focused on trichomes, which are epidermal outgrowths found on plants, algae, lichens, and some protists. Trichomes vary in structure and play roles including plant defenses and response to environmental conditions. On April 25th, the class presented their final art projects at the Department of Art open house. We are so proud of this work!
