John D. Carpten to give Keynote Lecture at Falkenthal Coloquium

The Department of Molecular Genetics is delighted to welcome John D. Carpten as the keynote speaker at the annual Falkenthal Colloquium on May 25th. Dr. Carpten’s scientific lecture entitled "Interrogating the Tumor and Immune Microenvironment of Triple Negative Breast Cancer" will be on Wednesday, May 25th, at 11:45 am in 155 Jennings Hall.

As a graduate student in the Burghes lab at OSU, Dr. Carpten participated in many Falkenthal symposia. Dr. Carpten is currently Professor and Chair of Translational Genomics, Director of the Institute of Translational Genomics, and the Royce and Mary Trotter Chair in Cancer Research at USC Keck School of Medicine. He is an internationally recognized expert in genome science and cancer research, and works in multiple disciplines including germline genetics for disease risk and predisposition, somatic cancer genomics, health disparities research, functional genomics and precision medicine. Besides doing extraordinary, ground-breaking science, Dr. Carpten is actively involved in advancing inclusive research in medicine, cancer research and clinical trials, and has published and spoken widely in this area. He is also active in public policy, and in 2021, was appointed by President Joe Biden to serve as chair of the National Cancer Advisory Board (see NCI piece here: https://www.cancer.gov/about-nci/organization/crchd/blog/2022).
