Looking back on 2021/22

celebrating Molgen

At our annual fall gathering, we highlighted many of the great achievements of our department members (watch the movie here).

In addition the department honored several students for their teaching and service in the 2021/22 year.

Teaching awards were given to:

  • Jackson Hastings for his efforts in MOLGEN 5602. His nomination highlighted that though Jackson had never worked with fission yeast before this classhe exhibited outstanding teaching skills, even giving some lectures in addition to his work in lab preparation and grading and his leadership in demonstrations and group discussion. He was described as "outstanding on all the aspects of teaching this class" and "one of the best TAs I ever had at OSU".
  • Geremy Lerma for his efforts in CLSE. After serving as a head TA in CLSE in spring 2021, Geremy was back again in the fall, earning another "Excellent" rating from CLSE. He was highlighted as organized and well prepared, and a positive team player who took a thoughtful approach to his professional development work.
  • Anna Lubertozzi for her efforts in CLSE. Anna received an "Excellent" rating from CLSE and was highlighted for her ability to embrace student-centered teaching, and inspire others to do the same. Anna also joined the advisory board for CIRTL as a student representative and served as a mentor for CLSE.

A service award was given to Priscila Rodriguez Garcia for her efforts on the department's new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Her nominators called out the extra effort she put in to gather and assemble resources so that the committee can put forth the most complete and informed DEI statements on our revised website. They both indicated that her dedication to making MOLGEN an inclusive and welcoming environment for all is worthy of this award and saying "It's a joy to work with her on this committee!"
