Molecular Genetics staff honored for outstanding pandemic contributions

Staff awards

We are delighted to highlight that several of our outstanding staff were recently recognized by the College of Arts and Sciences for their extraordinary efforts and contributions during the pandemic.

Brittany Poast was nominated for her tireless support of the department and associated centers during the pandemic. She constantly looked out for everyone and making sure that all faculty, students, and staff were supported and safe, always with a positive attitude and smile on her face.

David Snodgrass was nominated for coming in almost daily to keep the Biological Sciences Greenhouse and Aronoff safe and secure, while maintaining normal daily operations at the greenhouse to ensure research and classroom plant materials were not lost. David was a key contact for staff and did a great job providing everyone with up-to-date campus information.

Danielle Pvirre was nominated for almost single-handedly keeping the fish colony in the Rightmire vivarium healthy and safe during the pandemic. Her amazing dedication to the lab and facility really shone through during the pandemic.

Shane Eisenhower (not pictured) was nominated for her fabulous job taking care of all Simcox fly stocks and cell lines; the lab would have been set back years if she had not stepped up. She also provided fly food to other labs, donated masks to hospital nurses, and reached out to colleagues to check in on them. She is an amazing team member!

Norman Groves was nominated for immediately stepping up to perform essential tasks, including the entire shut-down process and keeping research material alive. He surveyed 5th floor Aronoff labs almost daily, communicated clearly and timely with all, and was involved with an essential growth-room renovation during shutdown that was crucial for the restart process.

Carol Barnes was nominated by several departments for coming in every single day  to check on labs, equipment and cold rooms in BioSciences and Riffe buildings, and for dealing with multiple emergency power outages and leaks during the pandemic.

The department and university could not run without the efforts of our amazing staff, and it's a delight to be able to highlight just a few of our outstanding colleagues!
