The Department is excited to welcome Dr. Margot Kossmann Williams as a new Associate Professor!

Dr. Williams joins us from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, where she started her independent lab after completing her postdoctoral training at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Her lab seeks to understand how embryonic cell behaviors are coordinated in space and time to produce a functional body plan. Using a combination of genetic, live imaging, and synthetic developmental biology approaches in zebrafish, her lab has identified novel regulators of morphogenetic cell movements and developmental timing during early embryogenesis. This work has been supported by numerous NIH awards, including a K99/R00, R01, and R21 awarded to Dr. Williams. She is also deeply committed to outreach and education, having directed multiple graduate courses, served on several graduate program leadership committees, and designed programs to bring research into primary and secondary classrooms. At OSU, her lab will continue to explore the molecular mechanisms by which embryonic cells "know" where to go and when to go there as they shape the emerging vertebrate body plan.
