Congratulations to Christin Burd whose four year grant entitled "Impact of senescence on T-cell function and immunotherapeutic response" was recently funded by the National Institutes of Health. One of the major interests of the Burd lab is to understand how aging affects cancer development and treatment. Senescent immune cells, marked by persistent p16INK4a expression, accumulate with age and are associated with age-related physiological decline. Her lab aims to define the events that cause immune cells to enter senescence and determine how these processes impact the outcome of cancer immunotherapies. Findings from this work will improve the design and implementation of therapies to combat age-related diseases and cancer.
