NIH funding to Ruben Petreaca and colleagues

Congratulations to Ruben Petreaca, whose grant entitled "The role of PRMT5 in preventing intra-chromosomal deletions in cancer cells." was recently funded by the NIH! The proposal investigates the roles of the arginine methyltransferase PRMT5 in DSB repair. The researchers found that PRMT5 forms complex genetic and physical interactions with the central repair gene RAD52 and its associated partners. The funded proposal investigates the role of these interactions in repair of DNA double strand breaks with a focus on intrachromosomal deletions. The grant is a collaboration between Ruben Petreaca (PI) which will do a battery of genetic tests in S. pombe and Renee Bouley (coPI, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry) who will oversee biochemical experiments to test physical interactions. Jenny Wang from the CCC serves as an additional contributor and will help with validation of experiments in human or cancer cells.

Congratulations to all!
