Ohio State’s Industry Liaison Office and the Technology Commercialization and Knowledge Transfer Office created a sponsored research project with the Orrville, Ohio-based J.M. Smucker Co., whose many brands include Folgers coffee. Looking for a team to conduct innovative research on coffee, they turned to the Center for Applied Plant Sciences (CAPS). "The formation of an Opportunity Team within the Center for Applied Plant Sciences to work with Smucker's scientists to accelerate post-harvest coffee research is at the core of CAPS' mission to find practical solutions to challenging problems," said Erich Grotewold, CAPS’ director and professor, molecular genetics; and horticulture and crop science.
