Congratulations to the Craig Burd lab, which has been awarded a Pelotonia IDEA grant entitled "Understanding Potential Protective Effect of Female Hormones in Melanoma".  This grant (https://cancer.osu.edu/research-and- education/pelotonia-funded-research/idea-grants) will ask how hormonal differences between men and women may influence the different rates of melanoma in the two sexes. Dr. Burd will examine the hypothesis that estrogen protects women against melanoma by assessing the role of a specific estrogen receptor in melanoma cells, and finding genetic targets of estrogen that protect against this cancer.
