Ruben Petreaca and Renee Bouley awarded undergraduate research grant

Congratulations to Ruben Petreaca and Renee Bouley who recently were awarded an honors undergraduate research grant entitled “Identification of Mutations that Drive Cancer” from the College of Arts and Sciences! The project will be co-led by Dr. Petreaca (Molecular Genetics) and Dr. Renee Bouley (Chemistry and Biochemistry) and will provide funds to engage 10 undergraduate Marion Campus students in projects mapping cancer mutations in a DNA damage repair complex (TIP60) which our groups have shown is essential for maintaining genome stability. The goals of the project include publication of the findings in a scientific peer reviewed journal with undergraduate students co-authors, thus enriching student academic extracurricular activities through independent research which has been demonstrated to improve learning, career preparation, and increase chances of matriculation into professional or graduate schools.
